The Gwyn Arch Foundation is led by six Trustees, who will ensure that the Foundation's aims and objects are fulfilled
and that the resources of the Foundation are spent wisely. You can read about our Trustees below.
Simon Salisbury retired as Head of the Buckinghamshire Music Service in 2013. Previously he spent 26 years working for the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust (Berkshire Maestros) where he was Head of the West and Central Berkshire Music Centres. In this role, he worked closely with Gwyn Arch, organising primary school music festivals and leading two tours of the Central Berkshire Girls' Choir to the USA and Canada. Simon is a flautist who trained at the Royal College of Music. He plays regularly in local orchestras and is principal flute and chairman of West Forest Sinfonia.
Liz has been singing with South Chiltern Choral Society since 1987 and was a founder member of Parenthesis Choir in 1991. Her son and daughter were both members of Gwyn’s earliest Children’s Choir at the Central Berkshire Music Centre and her daughter continued to sing with the Central Berkshire Girls’ Choir until leaving to go to university.
Liz is a retired senior civil servant, and a former magistrate. She is Chair of Governors at a large local independent school.
Nadine Doble is Head of Finance and Resources at a local large Independent Day School. After an early career in finance in the commercial sector, Nadine's most recent experience is in financial leadership roles in schools also operating as charitable, not for profit businesses. Nadine enjoys bringing business and governance experience to an education setting.
Nadine's daughter sings with Parenthesis and is a member of her school choir.
Gwyn’s wife Jane conceived the idea of this foundation to keep his legacy alive. After graduating from London University with a BSc she moved to Oxford University where she met Gwyn. They married in 1957, and eventually settled in Sonning Common with their two young children in 1964. Jane was a teacher at the local primary school for many years, latterly as deputy head and also sang in South Chiltern Choral Society under Gwyn’s direction for 50 years. In her spare time she also ran a music society and a theatre club.
Helen Rees (nee Butcher) was a student at Central Berkshire Music Centre from 1982 - 1992, learning first flute and then bassoon. Helen was a member of Reading Schools Concert Band, Reading Youth Orchestra and was an inaugural member of Gwyn's Central Berkshire Girls Choir in 1986, singing alto, and toured with the choir to Norway in 1989 and the USA & Canada in 1992. Helen was also asked to serve as the Girls Choir's accompanist for a number of years, a role which she also enjoyed with Gwyn's Intermediate Choir. Helen has worked in the arts funding sector, and has over 10 years experience as a charity Executive Assistant. Helen leads her own wellbeing choirs, working with workplaces and community groups, and is currently the accompanist for the Portsmouth Military Wives Choir.
Katrina Watson (née Hartley) sang with the Central Berkshire Girls' Choir in 1991-1996 culminating in the US tour that summer, and prior to that Junior Choir and mass school choirs conducted by Gwyn Arch. Inspired by Helen Rees' 2002 reunion Katrina organised CBGC reunions in 2006 and 2014, and continues to sing (alongside her husband) with EC4 Music in London. Katrina works as a Senior Learning and Development manager at a City law firm, and hopes to inspire her young children to enjoy music as much as she does.
